At the far eastern end of Onetangi Beach, jump across the small stream up First Ave with the beach at your back.
Stay on First Ave, keep left up the hill. (Not the road that curves to right).
Follow First Ave to the top of the hill, where there is a set of steps up to Pohutukawa Reserve.
From the top of the steps, cross the grassy reserve back along the cliff and diagonally down to the corner of Third Ave and Waiheke Road.
Cross Waiheke Road (the main road), walk to the corner of Victoria Road North, and turn left up Victoria Road North.
Meander up this quiet residential street and continue onto the gravel lane Scott Terrace. This re-joins Victoria Rd and continues up. Look out for the stunning views across the Onetangi Forest & Bird Reserve.
Turn left into the gravel road of Hobson Terrace.
Continue through this lovely bush clad quiet road. Listen for the Tuis and Piwakawaka (fantails). Hobson Terrace is replete with tall Nikau trees, old Waiheke baches tucked away into the bush, and the dappled light filtering through the Kohekohe tree canopy.
Veer right into Eden Terrace, then right again onto Victoria Road South.
After 50m turn left onto Marine View Road and see the spectacular views north out over the Hauraki Gulf, out to Little Barrier (Hauturu) Island, Great Barrier (Aotea) Island and the Coromandel Peninsula.
Look for the track Route to Victoria Road North off Marine View Road.
Follow steps down into the magical dense Nikau Palm forest, quiet bush and board walks.
Pop out of the bush and turn left back onto Victoria Road North, cross Waiheke Road and walk down Third Ave toward the sea where the beach and cafes beckon. You are back at Onetangi Beach.
