This is a stunning coastal walk that weaves up and down, and up and down, with sweeping sea views, around the western most peninsular of the island. There are plenty of bays to enjoy a picnic stop or dip.
We have 3 Park Point walks. This is the ‘shorter’ length option.
For a medium option (6.8kms, 2 hours) try the Park Point Loop – Church Bay section walk.
For a longer option (12kms, 3.5 hours) try the Matiatia to Blackpool around Park Point walk.
Location
This walk starts at the corner of Church Bay Rd and Cable Lane, approx. 2.5km by road from central Oneroa.
You can also link this walk with other tracks from Matiatia to Church Bay, or the section of the Te Ara Hura track coming from Blackpool.
Track Summary
This is a single track loop, with lots of stairs, that descends down to beaches, before ascending again.
There are some brief sections around the rocks (above high tide mark), as you wind your way around the peninsula.
Enjoy stunning views through cliff hanging pohutukawa and the sound of the ocean just below.
Reward yourself with a swim and/or picnic on the grass reserve at stunning Matarahui Bay ‘half way’ or at Te Wharau Bay.
